Knee Pain

Your knee is an important part of your everyday life. It helps you kneel, walk, run, and lift. As a result of being such an important part of your active lifestyle, it bears the brunt of a large amount of stress and can become vulnerable. Your knee cap and two bones, the tibia and femur, make up your knee. The bones are covered by cartilage to protect it and absorb any shock. The muscles, tendons, and ligaments hold the bones in place. If you are experiencing knee pain and you live in the Fort Walton Beach area, you should see our premier chiropractor at Progressive Health Clinic.

Common Causes of Knee Pain

Many knee problems can cause pain in your knee. Most of these result as a part of the natural aging process and the constant stress and wear on the joints of the knee. Sudden movements or an injury can also cause knee problems and pain along with them.

Dislocated Knee: this happens when the positioning of the bones of the thigh and shin is changed at the knee. This often occurs from accidents or sports injuries.

Knee Bursae: this is bursitis of the knee joint, which is inflammation of the pads of the knee that are filled with fluid. These pads usually cushion the joint but can get inflamed as a result of repetitive motion.

Frozen Knee: this occurs when someone is not able to move their knee by bending or straightening it. This can be caused if the joint is locked and cannot move. Sometimes, it can be pain that is making it difficult to move.

Rotator Cuff Injury: the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is the rotator cuff of the knee and when that tears, it causes pain that can be incredibly painful depending on the severity.

Strains & Sprains: these tend to happen when there is a sudden movement or twist of the knee. They cause swelling and problems walking, along with pain.

Tendinitis: this occurs when the tendons are inflamed, usually from activities that cause overuse, such as biking, jumping, or running. This may also be referred to as jumper's knee and can result from sports like basketball that require a lot of jumping.
